Dinamakan Ali 'Imran karena surah ini berisi tentang kisah keluarga Ali 'Imran yang di dalam kisah itu disebutkan kelahiran Nabi Isa, kenabiannya dan beberapa mukjizatnya, serta disebutkan pula kelahiran Maryam binti Imran.
